The inadvertent expat blogger behind Pine Grove Orbit

Hello, I'm Sofia
Project manager. Parent. An expat living in Madrid, Spain.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually blossomed into a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Relocating to Spain wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate moves, it started with a work opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than expected.
The Adjustment Phase
There was cultural adjustment, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines settled in. We found places that worked for us, connected with other families, and began crafting something that felt steady.
Why I Created Pine Grove Orbit
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What’s missing is an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Spain.
What This Site Does (And Doesn’t)
This site is about:
- Hands-on experience from living in Spain
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated when there are meaningful changes
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our time in Spain continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
